Strifor Session Volatility Map is a trading indicator for MetaTrader that visualizes the structure of the trading day and helps traders assess market activity during the Asian, European, and US trading sessions. It marks session boundaries, highlights overlapping sessions, and displays the high and low prices of each session’s range.
The indicator is designed for traders who want to understand not only the direction of price movements but also when those movements occur. Session Volatility Map makes it easier to identify active market phases, monitor key price levels, and analyze current price action in the context of trading sessions.
Market activity changes throughout the day. During some hours, prices may move within a relatively narrow range, while other periods can bring stronger impulses and breakouts. Liquidity, economic announcements, market participants, and overlapping trading sessions can all influence price behavior.
Session Volatility Map displays the main trading sessions directly on the chart, helping traders follow the market’s time structure without manually tracking session schedules.
The Asian session provides an opportunity to observe the formation of the initial price range and assess market behavior at the beginning of the trading day. The session high and low can serve as reference levels when analyzing subsequent breakouts, pullbacks, and changes in market momentum.
Market activity in many instruments may increase as European markets open. Traders can observe how price interacts with levels established earlier and whether it moves beyond the Asian session range.
The US session introduces another phase of market activity. Price movements may accelerate in response to economic data releases, the opening of US markets, and the overlap with the European session. Session markings help traders account for this time-based context when evaluating potential trading opportunities.
One of the key features of Session Volatility Map is its visual highlighting of overlapping trading sessions. During these periods, market participants from different regions may be active simultaneously, sometimes contributing to increased trading activity and volatility.
The indicator marks these intervals as high-volatility zones, helping traders identify periods that may deserve closer attention.
These zones can be useful when monitoring:
Increased activity does not guarantee a directional move. Session overlaps can produce strong impulses, sharp reversals, or false breakouts. These zones should therefore be treated as analytical context rather than standalone trading signals.
Session Volatility Map automatically marks the highest and lowest prices reached during each trading session. These levels help traders assess price structure and monitor how the market reacts to the boundaries of an established range.
Session highs and lows can be used for:
Session highs and lows are not guaranteed reversal points. Their relevance depends on current market conditions and should be evaluated alongside additional analysis.
The indicator displays the currently active trading session and transitions between the main phases of the trading day. This helps traders relate price movements to the timing of market activity without repeatedly checking session schedules.
All essential information is available directly on the chart, making the indicator particularly useful for active intraday trading and monitoring multiple instruments.
Accurate session visualization depends on the selected time model and daylight saving time changes. Session Volatility Map provides settings that allow traders to adapt session markings to their platform and chart history.
Key parameters include:
These settings allow traders to adapt the indicator to their trading environment. When using it for the first time, it is recommended to verify that session boundaries match the intended market schedules and the trading terminal’s time settings.
Session Volatility Map allows traders to customize the indicator’s appearance to suit their preferences and chart layout.
Customizable colors help distinguish regular trading periods from overlapping sessions. This keeps the structure of the trading day easy to read, even when monitoring charts over extended periods.
Traders can adjust the font size and color of range labels, enable additional labels, and customize their positioning. These options make price levels easier to read without overcrowding the chart.
An optional panel on the right side of the chart displays session information. Its font, color, line spacing, and padding can be customized.
The indicator can display vertical lines marking session openings, with adjustable color, style, and width. Session labels can be positioned at the top or bottom of the chart according to the trader’s preferences.
Scalpers. The indicator helps identify periods of increased activity and account for session levels when evaluating short-term trading opportunities.
Intraday traders. Session markings and price ranges help structure the trading day, analyze breakouts, and compare price behavior across different periods.
News traders. Session timing helps traders identify which trading session coincides with an economic release and consider the relevant market context when assessing price reactions.
Traders using level-based and momentum strategies. Session highs, lows, and overlap zones complement the analysis of support, resistance, and developing price movements.
Session Volatility Map creates a visual map of the trading day by combining three essential elements: session boundaries, session price ranges, and periods of potentially increased market activity.
Instead of manually marking session openings and drawing levels on the chart, traders receive a ready-made visual structure for further analysis. This allows them to focus more on price behavior and the evaluation of potential trading scenarios.
Use Strifor Session Volatility Map in MetaTrader to visualize trading sessions, monitor their overlaps, and analyze session highs and lows directly on the chart.
